"They" are convinced the average person doesn't understand what 8.7% is. Unfortunately they maybe right for maybe half the population. A few more years and that number will also grow, with the education most are not getting. That is by no means a dig at teachers, most do the best they can, with what is allowed or given.

I did that. At 3% compound interest with no capital gains it came to about 400k. That's extremely conservative. A balanced mutual fund investment would yield more.

 

Like I said the guy is sleazy. He’s not the only one who does that shit. They’ll serve you the real stuff at first. I knew this girl who worked at a gentleman’s club. Most of the guys would leave their change on the table after buying a round. The next round she brought over she would wet the bottom of her serving tray and place it down on the money. The bills would stick to the bottom of her tray and they never had a clue. I think that actually goes back to the days when our highway system was first being built. The concern was that the local businesses along the route would lose a huge amount of customers if everything could be purchased on the interstate.

 

That's why it's called a rest stop. Get out, stretch your legs, use the bathroom and keep going.

 

On the Pennsylvania Turnpike every rest stop has a gas station and fast food of some kind. There are other exits along the turnpike to get gas, food and hotels if you want but it’s not as convenient. If I can cut my stops in half on a 1000+ mile trip, I could possibly cut my drive time by an hour.

 

Turnpike are different than interstates. Turnpikes are state roads, separate from interstate highway (even though they may or may not be on something designated as an interstate. Federal law actually prohibits the sale of prepared food and gas on an interstate.

 

Tell that to Maryland. No wait, don’t do that lol

 

I pack sandwiches and snacks for the ride. Gas station toilets can be downright dangerous, we really try to avoid them.
